Parkinson’s: help others give you time, and your medicines on time
Parkinson’s can make someone move slowly, shake, lose their balance or have trouble speaking, and strangers do not always understand what they are seeing. Its medicines also have to be taken on time. A Parkinson’s ID with a QR code tells whoever is with you what is going on, how to help if you freeze, and when your next dose is due.

- Slow movement, shaking, unsteadiness or trouble speaking can be Parkinson’s, not drunkenness. Be patient and speak calmly.
- Their medicines are time critical: ask when the next dose is due, and help them take it on time (for example with water) if they can swallow safely.
- If they “freeze” and cannot move their feet: stay calm and wait. Do not rush or push them.
- To help them start again, ask them to step over your foot, march on the spot or count out loud with you.
- If they go to hospital, take their medicines with them and tell the staff they have Parkinson’s and when the next dose is due.
What to include on your ID
- Your Parkinson’s medicines and the times you take them
- What helps you when you freeze, and what your “off” times look like
- If you have a deep brain stimulation (DBS) device
